The emotional poem you'll find below is not new. The Sunday Post says it has actually been around for more than 40 years. But the poem has found new life a few times over, with the back story changing over the years. After the man passed away, the nurses at the care home where he resided allegedly found this unpublished poem among his possessions. They were so inspired by its contents that they felt compelled to share his words with the world.
I must remind myself Chuck is still a young man inside. He still has a lot to contribute to society if people would only take time to listen. There's a tremendous amount of wisdom behind those sunken eyes yet to be gleaned from younger generations. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem.
Our elders should be respected, but the sad fact is that you can find many like the man portrayed in this fictional story. It's easy to brush off those who seem grouchy or abrupt. But the next time you encounter someone like this, take a step back try to look a little closer. Try to see what may be behind the gruff exterior.

These were experiences only a few handfuls of men still remember and who are still around in today's world. These experiences shaped him into being the good wise man he is today. After receiving notice about the latest comments on "Cranky Old Man", I went back and reread my original post since I totally forgot all about it. For my young are all rearing ……… young of their own. Who need me to guide ………… and a secure happy home.

This weekend I was a presenter at San Francisco Assessor Carmen Chu’s Family Wealth Workshop. The title of my presentation was Protecting Against Elder Financial Abuse. I was able to share stories with the community and they in turn shared stories with me. I find this the most gratifying part of these events. When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
At that moment, a vision burst into my mind of so many of the nursing home residents whom I have come to know and love in the course of my ministry. They feel all of their losses deeply, but they maintain their high character and grace, even in the worst of circumstances. Invariably, I find that their strength lies in the many years they have labored faithfully for the Lord. As the speaker made her point, the first few lines of this poem began to flow in my mind. While she continued her speech, I quickly penned this poem to honor these sweet, faithful Christians.
The reclusive neighbor down the street? Pray on it, and let God guide you to the person that needs a little extra love today. So many times we don't see a person any more. Just an old man or old woman waiting to die. What the poem says still applies today.
